LEAVE ONLY PAW PRINTS
Nothing beats getting out with your furry friend to explore the beaches or pathways and Anglesea gives you loads of pooch-friendly options. Read on for our pick of the spots where you and your doggo will have an amazing time together.
WHERE CAN I GO WITH MY DOG?
In Anglesea and the Surf Coast Shire region, all dogs are required to be on a leash in all public places, except as specified in nominated areas.
These nominated areas include some reserves and beaches on the Surf Coast that are designated as "off-leash" areas.
In Anglesea, the main off-leash beach year-round is the beach access past Point Roadknight accessible by O’Donohue’s Road Carpark. There are two other off-leash areas: on the Anglesea Green (off Cameron Road) and the Anglesea Recreation Reserve (off Ellimatta Road).
During peak visitor periods, including summer and the Easter weekend, timeshare restrictions operate on some popular beaches that are often crowded during the day.
Anglesea Main Beach has a timeshare restriction in place from 1 December to 28 February annually. Between the hours of 9am and 7pm, no dogs are allowed. Outside these times and dates, dogs are allowed off-leash but must be under effective control.
Dog-free zones include all playgrounds on the Surf Coast as well as some environmentally sensitive areas including Point Roadknight (a known breeding ground for the vulnerable hooded plover).
