THE SPA TRAIL: A VACATION FOR YOUR BODY AND MIND

by BETH GIBSON

The Great Ocean Road is predominantly known for its big nature and active adventure experiences.

Yet, visitors are increasingly setting their sights on the growing number of day spas across the region for rest and relaxation.

Many embrace the convenience of a hot stone massage or geothermal spa after a big day of walking, surfing or chasing waterfalls.

Others love the fact they can zone out with a luxurious face or body treatment whilst away on a girls’ weekend or couples' escape.

Between Torquay and Port Fairy, there are several luxurious day spas set in beautiful locations that complement nature’s natural wellness…the ocean!

Here’s where they are and what make them all so unique:

One Spa, RACV Resort Torquay

Having a day spa on site at your resort is pretty convenient. You can just duck back and forth from your room; fluffy robe and all! Hotel guests and walk ins are welcome at One Spa, which has a steam room and a thermal stone room. There’s also a wet room with four overhead showers, a spa pool and plunge pool. You can finish off your session with a herbal tea in the spa’s lounge, overlooking the ocean and the resort’s 18-hole golf course. Read the blog.

Saltair Day Spa, Torquay

On the outskirts of Torquay, with views of Spring Creek Valley, Saltair Day Spa is the place for heavenly massages, luxury face and body treatments and world-class skin care. How does a full body sea salt exfoliation, followed by a silky body mud wrap and warm oil head massage sound? Magnificent!

Soul, Skin, Beauty & Body Care, Torquay

If you ran out of time for a wax or eyebrow tint before leaving home for your holiday, you’re lucky that this salon is on hand. Not only does it offer all the highly sought-after beauty treatments, the team includes qualified skin clinicians, so it’s a good chance to give your skin some love while you have some time up your sleeve.

Silk Spa & Beauty, Anglesea

This architecturally designed day spa is opposite the main beach at Angelsea. There are single and dual treatment rooms; perfect for couples wanting to be pampered together. Soft music and candlelight calm the senses whilst you enjoy a hot stone, or deep tissue massage.

Lux Spa, Anglesea

On the Anglesea River, and near the Great Ocean Road Resort, Lux Spa is a sanctuary away from the outside world. Treatments focus on health and wellbeing, and water therapies include a Geisha Tub and a Vichy Shower Cocoon, (which showers you with water and steam whilst you’re lying down…ahh, bliss!). They have plenty of space for group bookings, which is a great if your're travelling with friends.

Deep Blue Hotel and Hot Springs, Warrnambool

The only one of its kind in the region, Deep Blue draws from a geothermal hot water source deep underground in Warrnambool to fill its large indoor communal bath (also with private rooms) and the outdoor ‘Sanctuary’ with hot spring caves, waterfalls and gardens. A point of difference is the Salt Room, which helps to cleanse the respiratory system. Read the blog.

Port Fairy Day Spa

The peaceful ambience of the Port Fairy Day Spa, coupled with blissful treatments to relax both body and mind, is paradise after a busy day of sightseeing or shopping. A bonus is the boutique that stocks a finely procured range of swimwear, clothing, accessories and gifts from Australian labels.
